“I highly recommend Rose Cottage. My daughter started last year and we signed her up again for this year! Jennifer is so wonderful and does an amazing job teaching classical music, art history, and even Shakespeare to the kids. My daughter talks about Vivaldi, Bach, and Michelangelo like they’re old friends, and she can recall the names of every character of The Winter’s Tale and The Tempest. They do handicrafts and folk dances, study hymns, and have plenty of play time too!”
Who We Are
Rose Cottage School is a small-by-design educational offering for homeschooling families living in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado. Rooted in the Charlotte Mason tradition, the program is devoted to educating the whole person and designed to foster relationships within a rich and varied curriculum of books, materials and experiences. Currently, we serve 1st-5th grade students in a multi-age group setting on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school year with plans to offer additional grades and days of the week in the future.
At Rose Cottage School we believe in ‘a liberal education for all’ where the personhood of each child is valued and respected. We are an inclusive, nurturing and supportive learning community where we hold simplicity, hospitality, and compassion to be among the highest virtues. Students experience an unhurried rhythm of space and freedom for deep thinking, discussion, and reflection.
A LivingCurriculum
We draw on inspiring ideas, people and things in literature, natural history, art, music, and handwork. We rely on real books, real things and real experiences, incorporating the best in all disciplines. Subject areas typically include Artist Study, Shakespeare, Hymn and Folk Singing, Handwork, Composer Study, Folk Dancing/Movement, and Nature Study.
Narration
Our primary educational tool is narration. This is simply the retelling of what has been read, heard, or seen. Whether telling back orally or through illustration or writing, the child finds themself relating to the information and growing in their ability to attend and make knowledge their own.
